Doane Professors Named Best in Nebraska, 20th Nationally
You might think Ivy League when you think of higher education's top professors. But a new list released from CBS Money Watch says Doane College ranks far above those institutions in terms of the best professors.
Doane College ranked 20th in the nation out of 650 schools considered for the "25 Colleges with the Best Professors in 2011" rankings.
Although only 2 percent of students attend small liberal arts colleges nationally, those colleges topped the list. Doane's Crete campus offers a student-to-faculty ratio of 12 students per 1 faculty member. These small class sizes allow for greater interaction between students and professors.
Doane was among other small liberal arts colleges on the list, including Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Carleton College.
Besides being in the top 20 schools, Doane ranked first in Nebraska institutions.
The rankings were determined from a variety of different factors, including RateMyProfessors statistics compiled for Forbes.com to determine its annual college rankings. The information from RateMyProfessors was used along with graduation rates, first-year student retention rates, and graduates' salaries, among many other factors to determine the Top 25 list.
