Doane Overcomes Late Deficit for Win
The Doane men's basketball held a 15 point lead with eight minutes to go only to see Dana rally to take the lead in the final minute of play. Trent Schlautman saved the day for the Tigers as he hit a three-point basket with 24 seconds remaining to lift Doane to a 74-72 victory in Blair on Tuesday evening. The win evens the Tigers' record in conference play at 1-1.
The two squads went back and forth throughout the first half and Doane took a four point advantage into halftime. Dana tied the game at 45-all with 14:27 remaining in the second half but an 18-3 run by the Tigers gave Doane a 15 point lead with 9:04 remaining.
Doane was lifted by their offensive rebounds as well as they scored 12 points on 11 offensive rebounds. Dana scored eight points on 12 offensive boards.
Trent Schlautman finished with a game-high 16 points to lead the Tigers as he hit 3-of-5 three-point attempts. Tyler Cyboron came off the bench and added 13 points, hitting a pair of three-point baskets. Jens Scholl finished with a double-double, 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. He added a game-high four assists.
Dana was led by Jake Brandl's 16 poings and Tristan Washington's 15 points. Chris Walker led the Vikings with seven rebounds.
Doane will be in action on November 27 at the Hastings Classic.
