Doane Improves to 3-1 on Season
The Tiger volleyball team went 1-1 on Day Two of the Red Raider Classic in Orange City, Iowa, closing out the weekend with a 3-1 mark. Doane swept Mayville State in three games before falling to Georgetown College in three.
Tigers vs. Mayville State University
Doane had no troubles waking up early in the morning as they cruised to a three-game victory over the Comets of Mayville State. The final scores were 30-17, 30-10, 30-22. In game two, the Tigers built a lead 17-2 before wrapping up the game with a 13-8 run.
The Tiger middles, Kari Hochstein and Chelsee Marvin, led the team with 10 kills a piece. Ashley Sluka picked up 19 assists and three ace serves while Heather Davison added 13 assists. Kaylee Lubken led the team with 11 digs. Hochstein posted seven assists blocks in the match.
Tigers vs. Georgetown College
In a well played match between two nationally ranked teams, Georgetown College came away victorious in three games, 30-24, 30-25, 30-26. Doane held leads in games two and three only to see Georgetown rally.
The Tigers of GC were led by Erica Janszen's 20 kills in 50 attempts. Doane was led by Hochstein's 12 kills in 27 attempts. Sluka posted 22 assists with Davison adding 14. Emily Schwisow posted three ace serves for Doane. Jessy Livers led the team in digs with 12.
Doane was led offensively by Hochstein's 52 kills (4.00/gm) and .410 attack percentage. Marvin added 43 kills and a .350 attack percentage. Lubken posted 65 digs (5.00/gm). Davison and Schwisow led the team with six ace serves while Lubken and Nicole Skolnick collected five.
Doane will travel to Irvine, Calif., to participate in the Concordia Invite. The Tigers will face three nationally ranked opponents.
