Doane Falls in Double Overtime
The Tiger women's soccer team suffered a tough set back on Saturday evening in Orange City, Iowa, falling in double overtime to Northwestern College, 2-1.
The Tigers scored the first goal of the game as Clare Koeppe found the back of the net off a pass from Kelsie Grgurich. Doane out-shot the Red Raiders, 8-5, in the first half.
In the second half, Doane out-shot Northwestern, 11-2, but were unable to break through with another goal. The Red Raiders, on the other hand, were able to pick up a goal following an attempted clear out by the Tigers. Jessica VanderBaan sent a ball back into the Tiger zone towards the net and the shot was ruled as a goal by the linesman who trailed the play by 15 yards. It appeared that Tiger keeper Kelsey Stark made a clean save, keeping the ball from cross underneath the cross bar.
After a scoreless first overtime, the two squads battled into a second 10-minute frame. With just over a minute remaining, Sarah Seeger was able to score the winning goal for Northwestern.
Doane out-shot Northwestern for the game, 25-9. Stark finished with three saves while her counterpart, Ariel Watts, posted 12 saves.
The Tigers will travel to Hastings College on Tuesday, October 5.
