Doane Drops Pair to KCAC Teams
The Tigers' struggled to make many baskets at the Hastings Thanksgiving Classic and dropped a pair of games, falling to Friends University, 53-49, and Kansas Wesleyan University, 67-62. The Tigers are 5-4 overall on the season.
Against the Falcons, Doane trailed by seven points at halftime after shooting 30.8 percent from the floor. The Tigers rallied to out-score Friends in the second half despite shooting only 20 percent from the floor. For the game, the Tigers shot 25 percent, converting 14-of-56 shot attempts. Doane was slightly better beyond the three-point arc, hitting 3-of-11 for 27.3 percent.
Doane managed to out-rebound the Falcons 42-38 while collecting 14 offensive rebounds. Doane also committed fewer turnovers with a season-low 11 and shot more free throws, hitting 18-of-23 while Friends was 3-of-4.
Hannah Helman led the team with 12 points, hitting 8-of-10 free throws. Alissa Holland had a game-high 16 rebounds to go with nine points.
The Coyotes of KWU used six three-point baskets in the second half to hold on for the victory on Saturday. The Tigers shot only 33.3 percent in the second half and were unable to take advantage of 16 offensive rebounds. Doane out-rebounded KWU 49-33 but were plagued by 23 turnovers. A 6-0 run by the Coyotes in the final minute of the first half proved to be the difference in the game.
Lindsay Anderson led all scorers with 19 points in the game while Holland added 10 points (six from the free throw line), 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.
Doane will travel to Seward on Tuesday, November 27, to take on Concordia University at 7:30 PM. The game can be heard on the Tiger Sports Network.
