Doane Downs Hastings in GPAC Opener

Doane volleyball got the 2010 Great Plains Athletic Conference slate off to a solid start, dropping rival Hastings College in three games. Game scores were 25-13, 25-21 and 29-27. Doane, ranked #17 in the latest NAIA poll, improved to 7-2 on the season and 1-0 in the GPAC.

Doane dominated the first game after an early exchange of points. Doane finished with 10 kills in the game while Hastings hit .026 as a team in the game. Games two and three were thrilling games as both teams went back and forth before Doane finally pulled away for victories. In game three, it took the Tigers four match points and fighting off one game point before taking the match.

For the match, Emily Max posted a team-high 12 kills and a .524 attack percentage. Terra Andreasen finished with 10 kills and Ashley Axmann added nine kills.

Heather Davison dished out 30 set assists. Axmann posted two ace serves to lead the team.

Defensively, Davison led the Tigers with 16 digs while Nicole Skolnick finished with 12 and Nikki Degenhardt added 10 digs. At the net, Max finished with five assists blocks while Davison and Susan Rollman added four assists blocks.

Hastings was led by Leah Dostal's 12 kills. Lyndi Rouzee finished with 20 set assists and two ace serves.

Doane will head to Hastings to play in the Bronco Classic on Friday and Saturday. Doane will open up with nationally-ranked Oklahoma Baptist University at 11:00 AM on Friday.
