Doane Defense Picks up Win at DWU
Doane used a strong defensive first half to propel them to a 68-52 victory at Dakota Wesleyan University on Sunday. The Tigers, 18-8 overall, remained in the hunt for a first round bye in the GPAC tournament but still need to take care of business with their remaining games and receive some help.
Doane forced 14 first-half turnovers on DWU which led to 15 points as the Tigers took a 33-20 lead into halftime. The second half was much closer as Doane was called for 12 fouls, compared to seven in the first half. The fouls allowed DWU to shoot 15 second half free throws compared to a pair in the first stanza. The Tigers still managed to outscore DWU 35-32 in the second half.
The most impressive team statistic for Doane was points off turnovers where the Tigers held a 26-6 advantage. Doane also posted a 1-to-1 assists-to-turnover ratio for the game.
Leading the way in the scoring column for Doane was Lindsay Anderson who finished with 25 points, 18 in the second half. She was 10-of-16 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. Ashley Howard added 14 points and eight rebounds. The duo collected a game-high three steals each.
Doane will travel to Dana College on Wednesday, February 14, to take on the Vikings in Blair. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
