Doane Defense Leads to Victory
Doane picked up their third straight win with a 70-56 victory over Iowa Wesleyan University on Friday evening in Crete. The Tigers improved to 4-2 overall with the win.
Doane took a 37-31 lead into halftime behind 46-percent shooting from the floor as the Tigers went 5-of-11 from behind the arc. IWU shot 42-percent in the first half but hit only 4-of-12 three-point attempts.
The Tigers extended their lead in the second half with 50-percent shooting from the floor. Doane took advantage of turnovers, scoring 22 points on 18 IWU mistakes. Iowa Wesleyan was unable to cut the lead under double figures in the final 17 minutes of play.
Jake Johnson led Doane with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Scott Neuhalfen added 14 points and six rebounds while Tyler Cyboron posted 12 points. Trent Schlautman posted five of the Tigers' 15 assists.
Iowa Wesleyan was led by Brett Humpal's 14 points and Da'kari Shelby's 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Doane will travel to Omaha to face the University of Nebraska-Omaha at 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 15.
