The Tiger volleyball team closed out their 2010 season on Thursday evening with a 3-0 victory over St. Ambrose University in the final match of pool play for the two squads. Neither team was able to advance out of their pool. Doane finishes the season at 27-8.

Doane controlled the first set, never trailing. Susan Rollman and Terra Andreasen posted five kills apiece while Emily Max added four as Doane won 25-20.

The second set was a different story for the Tigers as they trailed through most of it. Following a Doane timeout, St. Ambrose took a 21-15 lead over Doane and looked to be in control. However, the Tigers' turned to their All-American from a year ago and Susan Rollman answered with four straight kills combined with a kill from Ashley Axman to tie the set at 21-all.

Doane took the lead on back-to-back Axmann kills and earned set point, 24-23, on Axmann's sixth kill of the set. However, an attack error and a Catherine Wildner kill gave the Queen Bees set point, leading 25-24. Max answered the call for the Tigers and responded with a kill to tie the set up but Amy Royer's kill gave St. Ambrose their second set point. Andreasen picked up a kill to keep the match going and following a setting error, Doane had set point once again. Following a good rally, Susan Rollman punctuated the set with slam out of the middle for her seventh kill of the set and a 28-26 win for Doane.

In set three, errors, attack or service, led to nine of the first 11 points. Doane did not have an earned point until Andreasen notched a kill to cut the Queen Bee lead to 7-6. Trailing by two, Axmann caught fire with four consecutive kills to give Doane a 10-8 advantage. The Tigers continued to maintain the advantage up to set point when they led 24-20. St. Ambrose went to Tori Matzen to extend the season and following a pair of kills and an ace serve the Queen Bees were within one point.

For the fourth straight point, St. Ambrose took a point as Catherine Wildner picked up a kill to tie the match at 24-all. Doane was able to force back-to-back attack errors to close out the set for a 26-24 win.

In the match, Axmann led the Tigers with a match-high 14 kills. Rollman added 13 kills and Andreasen posted 12 kills. Doane finished with 47 kills compared to 38 for St. Ambrose.
