Coyotes Block Doane on Day One of NAIA
The Tiger volleyball team got off to a solid start, posting 11 kills and three ace serves in game one against No. 8 College of Idaho but the Coyotes battled back to take the next three games and defeat Doane, 3-1, on the first day of pool play at the NAIA National Tournament.
Doane was held to a negative attack percentage in games two and four as the Coyotes used a strong blocking attack. College of Idaho finished with 15 total blocks in the contest, most of them coming in the final three games.
The Tigers were paced by Ivie Speer's eight kills. Jessy Livers and Susan Rollman each added seven kills for Doane as they posted 37 kills as a team with a .073 attack percentage.
Heather Davison finished with 19 set assists for Doane while Cassie Reicks added nine. Davison collected a team-high 18 digs for Doane with Livers added 15.
Rollman led the defense at the net with five total blocks. Livers added four and Kellie Peterson posted three total blocks for Doane.
The Coyotes were led by Naomi Reimer's 14 kills, 20 set assists and three total blocks. Marcella Hernandez had a big day defensively at the net, finishing with 10 total blocks for College of Idaho.
Doane will take on No. 5 Azusa Pacific on Wednesday at 8:00 PM.
