College Fanz NAIA Basketball Game of the Week Broadcasts Live Wed. Jan. 6th Hastings College at Doane College Men's & Women's Hoops Doubleheader
Grand Island, NE - January 5, 2010 - The New Year brings new live college basketball broadcasts this week on the College Fanz NAIA Basketball Game of the Week, with a men's and women's hoops doubleheader featuring Hastings College at Doane College on Wednesday, January 6th. The men's contest begins at 6 p.m. Central/7 p.m. Eastern, with the women's game to follow at approximately 8 p.m. Central/9 p.m. Eastern.
The world's largest online college sports community launched by ESPN founder Bill Rasmussen, College Fanz is changing the way college sports news and information is delivered to fans worldwide, just as Rasmussen's earlier creation changed the way people watched television. Launched 28 years to the day that his most famous earlier creation debuted, College Fanz boasts over 22,000 web pages devoted to every team at the more than 1,450 colleges and universities throughout the United States competing in over 225,000 NCAA and NAIA athletic events. The inaugural season of the "College Fanz NAIA Basketball Game of the Week" comes hot on the heels of the highly-successful inaugural season of the "College Fanz NAIA Football Game of the Week" broadcasts, where people in over 100 countries watched American small college football games.
The "College Fanz NAIA Basketball Game of the Week" expands the broadcast programs available on the network, and enhances the network's considerable offerings including America's College Scoreboard and the community-generated photos, videos and blogs.
The Hastings College men's basketball team enters the contest Wednesday night with a 12-4 overall record and a 3-2 record in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). The Broncos started the New Year off in winning fashion beating Southwestern on Saturday, Jan. 2nd, 90-56. Senior guard Waid Vontz had a big night leading the team with 30 points, going 11-15 from the field and 5-8 from behind the three-point arc.
Doane's Tigers men's basketball team dropped their first contest of 2010, falling to the University of Nebraska-Kearney, 74-47, also on Saturday. They are 2-11 overall and 1-4 in the GPAC this season. Sophomore forward Jens Scholl leads the Tigers with 10.3 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game.
Hastings' women's hoops squad is 14-2 overall and 5-0 in the GPAC, with their last game an 81-50 victory over Dakota State University on Saturday. Senior center Lindsay Ducey leads the Broncos with 19.3 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per game.
The women's basketball team at Doane College is 6-10 overall and 2-3 in the GPAC following a 78-67 loss at Aquinas College on December 29th. Senior forward Vanessa Munter leads the Tigers with 16.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Each state-of-the-art "College Fanz NAIA Basketball Game of the Week" broadcast includes full multiple-camera production, graphics, expert broadcasters, features and interviews with coaches, players, and college officials. College Fanz features video stream broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week with programming that includes the "College Fanz Report," as well as highlights and features covering a wide-range of college sports, student-athletes, coaches, rivalries, mascots, marching bands, fanz and alumni.
Each College Fanz broadcast utilizes the talents of a select number of college students actively participating in production. Qualified students from the communications, business and sports management departments (among others) are selected to act as interns with the College Fanz broadcast team for the day.
The College Fanz Scholarship Fund has been established to provide contributions to college and university athletic department funds. The College Fanz Scholarship Fund is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit corporation. The fund accepts individual donations, and donors may select merchandise for their donation in the College Fanz Store. In addition, organizations who set up their own Webstorz account will share proceeds with their organization, the College Fanz Scholarship Fund and the NAIA.
