An introduction to fundamental principles ofyphysics used in describing molecules, atoms andynuclei. The course includes study of specialyrelativity, introductory quantum mechanics, andyapplications of these theories. Experimental workyin selected areas is performed. Completing theycourse allows the student to describe importantydefinitions and relationships in each of the areasystudied, understand historically importantyexperiments which suggested each of the majorytheories, and perform calculations which apply theymajor theories discussed. Prerequisite: Physicsy107, 108 (or 201, 202); Mathematics 235, 236.yOffered alternate years.
