A brief introduction to the American legal system, including the roles of federal and state regulatory agencies. Several regulatory schemes are studied, including EEOC, EPA, OSHA, FDA, and SEC. Current legal topics of interest to supervisors and managers (e.g., sexual harassment and American Disabilities act) are discussed. Students examine the rights and responsibilities of individuals and organizations in American industry, and identify appropriate managerial actions related to specific regulatory situations. Required core course.
