Linguistics for ESL Teachers
Introduces concepts in linguistics and sociolinguistics relevant to the teaching of English as a second language. Aspects of linguistics theory and English language structure-phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics are discussed, with an emphasis on how language functions as a means of communication. The connection between language, thought, and culture is examined for its applications in classroom teaching in ESL settings. Students will be able to apply linguistics theory to classroom practices.
