An examination of historical and contemporaryytheories of leadership, exploring the uses, abusesyand meaning of power in leadership situations andyrelationships. The course develops anyunderstanding of the role of communication inyfacilitating or hindering leadership, identifiesythe tensions between individuals and communitiesyin a variety of contexts, and applies conflictymanagement principles to those tensions. Studentsysuccessfully completing this course will becomeyaware of their own leadership styles, develop theyability to improve communication in conflictysituations, develop collaborative skills,ysynthesize information from a variety of sourcesyand apply that information to ethically improvingyleadership in contextually appropriate ways.
