A methods course focusing on the discovery andyinvestigation of language arts, reading methodsyand materials for the elementary (including earlyychildhood K-3) and middle grade settings,yincluding handwriting, spelling, listening,ycreative dramatics, grammar, language development,yoral language, writing as a process approach andythe six traits of analytical writing. Studentsybecome acquainted with literature for children andyadolescents, including the different genres,ystorytelling, oral reading, choral reading and itsyapplication for teaching language arts skills.yEmphasis will be placed on implementing state andynational reading and language arts standards.yPrerequisite: Education 211.
