An introductory course in cell biology thatypresents concepts of cell structure and functionybeginning with a review of basic chemistry andymolecules of life. The course will go on to coveryconcepts related to cell surfaces andycommunication, cell reproduction, cell energetics,ycytoskeleton and cell movement, and aspects ofygene expression, protein and lipid synthesis andyprocessing. In the laboratory students will gainyskills in problem solving, experimental design,ydata collection, analysis and presentation throughya series of student directed laboratoryyexperiments. Students completing this class willyhave a solid foundation in basic cell biology andywill be prepared to continue with OrganismalyBiology.
