A course primarily for individuals who plan toyuse listening and attending skills in helpingyprofessions, such as mental health counseling,yhuman services, criminal justice, teaching, andyhealth fields. This course is introductory inynature and includes consideration of theoreticalyapproaches and in-class practice of skills usedyin counseling. Students successfully completingythe course will demonstrate their understandingyofythe assumptions, strengths, and limitations thatyaccompany different approaches to counseling. yStudents will also demonstrate their ability toypractice specific techniques and skills derivedyfrom these approaches.
