A survey of the history and literature of Western music from c. 1600 to 1900. Upon successful completion, students will be familiar with the numerous important styles, genres, and composers of this period, and will be able to place this information within the context of cultural history. Important musical compositions will be analyzed for musical content and cultural impact. Prerequisite: Music 116, 235, co-enrollment in Music 215. Offered spring term.
