This course reviews the historic development ofyhealth policy in the United States and factorsythat affect future health policy initiatives. Theycourse will examine critical healthcare policyyissues facing the United States such as risingyhealthcare costs, quality of healthcare services,yfinancing of the healthcare system, and adoptionyof new technologies. Students will learn theybasic elements underlying financing, organization,yand delivery of healthcare services includingyMedicare, Medicaid, access to healthcare, and theyrelationship between the public and privateysectors on health policy. Upon completion of theycourse, students will understand how policyyaffects the development of health careylegislation, and the process of politicalycompromise and real world limitations upon theyimplementation of legislation.
