Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction
We know teachers. And more importantly, we learn from them.
Doane launched its Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program more than 20 years ago, based on input from teachers and school districts. We continuously advance the program, and include the same crucial input.
Students choose Doane’s program for coursework that is relevant and applicable; for faculty who believe educational professionals are lifelong learners; for a curriculum that incorporates experience and knowledge, best practice, current research, application and evaluation.
Our site-based Curriculum and Instruction program gives special attention to the needs of K-12 teachers. Many of the classes are offered in K-12 schools across Nebraska.
Doane’s holistic approach recognizes that the cumulative effects of the completed graduate degree program are greater than the sum of the courses. Our faculty take great pride in the high marks our graduates give us in relevance and quality of instruction.
About The Program
- Open to degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students.

- Consists of 36 credit hours of coursework. There are five core courses, including a culminating project. All students must complete this coursework.
- A maximum of 12 credits may be transferred into the program. (Transfer courses must meet Doane’s criteria for graduate credit at the institution granting the credit.)
- Each course is graduate-level, and designed to extend undergraduate work and meet the needs of the developing professional.
- Graduate students in Curriculum and Instruction are allowed to register for a maximum of six credit hours each term in the fall and spring and 12 credit hours during the summer term.

Endorsements: Candidates who have or have held a Nebraska certificate in elementary, secondary, or middle-grades education can work toward endorsements. Please see the information under Endorsement Programs for the additional requirements for an Early Childhood, English as a Second Language, High Ability Education K-12, Reading Specialist, or Mild, Moderate Special Education endorsement. These endorsements will require additional credit hours and an additional term or terms of study.
Initial Certification at the Advanced Level: Candidates take graduate-level courses to earn certification to teach through the Nebraska Department of Education.
