The course provides an introduction to political,yeconomic, and social issues and conditions in theycontemporary world. The course will begin with anyoverview of the division between developed andydeveloping countries and the nature of globalyinequalities, and will examine issues prevalentyin each category of countries. The course willythen discuss issues and concerns that crossynational borders; these include migration, globalyenvironmental issues, international security andyconflict, and the international human rightsyagenda. Students who complete this course willybe able to knowledgeably analyze and discussyimportant contemporary international issues, andywill be able to draw connections between thoseyissues and the global social, economic, andypolitical context.
