Genetics is the study of inheritance - how traitsyare passed from parents to offspring. In thisycourse inheritance will be examined in terms ofyclassical or transmission genetics and also at theymolecular level through the study of structure,yfunction and expression of the DNA moleculesythemselves in prokaryotes and eukaryotes.yAdditional topics will include genomics, geneticyengineering, cloning, gene therapy, population,yconservation and evolutionary genetics. Studentsycompleting this course will have a thoroughyunderstanding of classical and molecular geneticsyconcepts, experience with basic geneticsylaboratory techniques and be prepared to continueywith upper level biology electives.
