Staff Absences from Work Due to the Flu

If you have the flu or flu-like symptoms you may not come to work for at least 24 hours after you no longer have a fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit) or signs of a fever (have chills, feel very warm, have a flushed appearance, or are sweating.) This should be determined without the use of fever-reducing medications. If you develop any of the above symptoms while at work you should notify your supervisor immediately and go home. When notifying your supervisor please let them know that you have flu-like symptoms because we will be using this information to monitor the number of flu cases at the College.
In the event that your child's school or child care provider would need to close due to an outbreak of the flu; staff may use paid sick leave, vacation leave or your floating holiday to stay home with your children during that period. In the event that you do not have any paid leave available you may take unpaid leave. Depending on the nature of your position, alternative work options may be available to you during this period. Possible alternative work options include, working from home or working unconventional hours. You should visit with your supervisor about these options.
