Through the Doane Learning Community initiative, faculty members have the opportunity (and challenge) to create opportunities for students to experience how subjects and ideas are interconnected - how they relate to one another.
The goal is to actively engage students in an interdependent web of learning that is at the core of their Doane experience. Experiences developed using one of the models of learning communities link students, faculty, and courses from different disciplines to each other and to leadership opportunities, service learning, travel, and more. In addition to realizing the benefits of learning communities and in line with the mission of the college, this challenges students to better understand the diverse nature of the world, to think more critically, and to communicate more effectively.
