Documents used by the task force

The following two documents created the task force and were instrumental in providing direction to the task force:

  1. Charge from Dr. Burney: This is the charge to the general education task force. (11/3/2010)
  2. Request of Doane Plan Committee for task force:  This is the request from the Doane Plan Committee to Dr. Burney for the general education task force. (9/10/2010)

Input from faculty was obtained at the 8/24/2010 opening faculty workshop on general education.  Dr. John Burney facilitated the workshop.  His comments on the state of general education and its reform, examples of general education programs at other institutions, and the five questions he asked which provided a framework for faculty input can be found in his presentation slides.  The raw data from those questions captured during the workshop can be found in the following documents:

In 2011, a new mission statement for Doane College was approved by the Board of Trustees.  Shortly thereafter, a strategic planning process commenced.  The task force was asked to propose strategies for elements of the strategic plan.  This was done throughout the interterm of 2012 and resulted in a document  that was submitted to the strategic planning steering committee for further consideration.  The mission statement and strategic plan will be instrumental in providing additional guidance to the task force.
