Engagement: Homecoming 2012
Doane College celebrated its 140th birthday during Homecoming, September 30 – October 7, 2012 and encouraged students, alumni and friends to come back to Doane and celebrate in a BIG WAY. The Homecoming theme this year was the “The Start of Something Big,” in honor of Doane’s new strategic plan and campus master plan. We’re starting something BIG at Doane by leading through engagement, growing enrollment, communicating a distinctive identity, providing exceptional education, and nurturing a supportive and inclusive community.
While the normal tailgate and football game brought in numerous alumni from far and away, the week long event produced new events in new places this year. Homecoming activities took place on all three campuses, helping emphasize the “One Doane” culture. Event topics expanded into different areas including mini career courses, Alumni Masters speakers and non-traditional students’ week celebrations. Homecoming care packages were sent to alumni around the U.S. that hosted their own Doane gatherings, and organized events occurred in Kansas City, Denver, Chicago, and Omaha. Local business leaders and Doane professors even taught interterm-like classes for alumni and students that were big on laughs and low on stress. Participants had the option to choose classes that varied from decorating cupcakes professionally to pairing Spanish tapas with the appropriate wine.
We hope you enjoyed your time with family and friends and invite you to re-live the excitement of the Alumni Awards Ceremony, parade, tailgate and other events by visiting the Homecoming photo gallery. Make sure to mark your calendars for Homecoming 2013 – October 7-13th!
