Critical Issues in Early Child.Educ

This course considers current social, political,yand economic issues affecting early childhoodycurriculum and education. Course discussions andyreadings focus on such areas as curriculum reformyand standards, assessment, communicating withyfamilies, classroom management, legislationypertaining to young children, public schoolyfinance, law, multicultural and special education,yeducational philosophy, current research guidingyeducational practice such as brain research, andytopics selected by class memebers. At theyconclusion of the course, students develop, basedyon their understanding of the issues, a personalyearly childhood philosophy that will guide theiryfuture educational practices.
