This course emphasizes the health of communitiesyand populations and the professional nursing roleyin health promotion and disease prevention. Topicsyinclude population-based health issues such asyenvironmental health, epidemiology, andycommunicable disease. In a clinical setting,ystudents will work with persons in a variety ofycommunity settings and learn how to assess andyscreen individuals and families withinycommunities, address identified needs, educateypeople across the lifespan, collaborate with otheryhealth care professionals, make referrals, andyparticipate in health promotion clinics. Studentsywill gain an understanding of theyinterdisciplinary nature of public health and theyoverall effects on health in the U.S. and abroad.
