2012 Choir Celebration at First Plymouth Congregational Church
Katie Brauer '13, Tigers on Tour student
On Saturday, July 14th, over 60 former and current Doane Choir members met to rekindle old friendships, relive past choir days, and do what they love... sing. Over fifty years stood between the graduation dates of singers, showing how influential Doane Choir has been in students' lives throughout the years. Alumni from Arizona, California, Nebraska, and Texas made the trip to First Plymouth Church in Lincoln to enjoy the event. It is obvious that something in Doane Choir resonated with singers and continues to do so today.
The choir event included a day of rehearsal and dinner at Valentino's Grand Italian Buffet. The next morning choir members reconvened at First Plymouth Church to perform in the 9:00am and 10:30am worship services. The choir shared beloved pieces like Christ the Apple Tree - Stanford Scriven and Come, O Fount of Every Blessing arranged by Doane Choir Director Dr. Kurt Runestad.
The positive feedback from alumni who attended the event and church-goers who listened to the choir make the event more than worthwhile:
Pat Grossart '51: "This has been one of the best experiences since I left Doane."
Derrik Castillo '12: "Doane Choir had a huge impact on my life, it was the main reason I went to Doane. Having this event made my love for Doane grow tremendously."
Many who attended the event were excited about the future of Doane Choir. Runestad, perhaps, said it best, "We are all here because we were transcended by our experience. It has bonded and bound us together."
