The Tiger men's soccer team opened Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play with a victory on Tuesday afternoon in Fremont with a 3-1decision over Midland Lutheran College. The win gives Doane four in a row after opening the season with three losses.
In the first half, Devon Strecker (Omaha, Neb.) posted a pair of goals in a 14 minute span for the Tigers. Strecker's first goal was scored in the 24th minute of play with Monday Akogwu (Lagos, Nigeria) picking up the assists. His second goal came unassisted in the 38th minute of play.
Midland Lutheran struck back early in the second half with a goal from Alejandro Guerrero in the 59th minute of play. In the 65th minute of play, Akogwu responded for Doane with a goal off a pass from Jeff Wick (Fort Collins, Colo.).
For the game, Doane out-shot Midland Lutheran 17-5. Eric Vrba led MLC with four saves while Chris Kavinsky (Englewood, Colo.) collected two for the Tigers.
