Doane College, ranked No. 8 in the latest NAIA men's cross country poll, opened the 2008 season with a ninth place finish at the Les Duke Invitational held in Grinnell, Iowa, on September 13. The Tigers finished with 251 points while Iowa Central CC won the team title with 130 points.
Doane was led by Sufian Kimo (Jr.; Norfolk, Neb.) and his 14th place finish. Kimo finished with a time of 27:02. Paul Garcia (Jr.; El Paso, Tex.) finished in 31st with a time of 27:29. Holden Kaliff (Sr.; York, Neb.) placed 51st with a time of 27:58.
Edwin Ronoh (So.; Kenya) finished 58th with a time of 28:06. Scott Ohlson (Jr.; Imperial, Neb.) rounded out the Top Five for Doane with a time of 28:59 as he placed 129th.
Finishing in the Top Seven for Doane were Steven Jerina (So.; Crete, Neb.) and Justin Cox (Jr.; Omaha, Neb.). Jerina finished 168th overall with a time of 29:28 as Cox finished 187th with a time of 29:49.
Other participants for Doane at the Les Duke Invitational were Phil Rohde (Jr.; Genoa, Neb.), Omar Fernandez (Fr.; El Paso, Tex.), Jamine Chehade (Fr.; El Paso, Tex.), Derreck Donovan (Fr.; Gering, Neb.), Matt Rosser (Fr.; Louisville, Neb.), Andrew Ohlson (So.; LaSalle, Colo.) and Cody Ingold (Sr.; Bellevue, Neb.).
Rohde finished in a time of 29:53 and placed 190th. Fernandez finished 203rd with a time of 30:09. Chehade placed 223rd with a time of 30:33. Donovan ran a time of 31:00 to place 246th. Rosser ended with a time of 31:40 to finish in 279th place. Ohlson placed 316th with a time of 33:36 and Ingold ran a time of 34:54 to place 333rd overall.
In all, 26 teams and 361 athletes participated in the meet.

The Tigers will travel to Lincoln to participate in the Woody Greeno Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The meet is set for Saturday, September 20.
