Tigers Earn First Win

The Tiger men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season on Friday with a 3-2 decision over Avila University.  The win moved the Doane record to 1-3 on the season.

Avila University struck first when Brian Berger knocked in a penalty kick in the 17th minute of play.  Kyle Smith evened up the score in the 35th minute when he put a shot past Avila keeper Max Hasselquist.  Doane took the lead in the first half behind a penalty kick from Devon Strecker in the 38th minute.

Doane increased the lead in the second half when Strecker scored his second goal of the game in the 52nd minute.  Avila was able to close the gap with a goal from Jason Jacob in the 60th minute but Tiger keeper Chris Kavinsky held the Eagles scoreless the rest of the way.

Kavinsky finished with two saves in the game while Hasselquist posted four.  The two teams finished with 10 shots each.

Up Next:
The Tigers will face Ottawa University on September 6 in Ottawa, Kan.
