The Doane volleyball team needed a near miracle as the Tigers rallied to defeat College of St. Mary 3-2 on Friday evening. Game scores were 14-25, 21-25, 25-9, 25-13, 15-13.
Doane (8-2) struggled early as service errors and inconsistent ball handling plagued the team. It took early two games before the Tigers got on track but they were in a 2-0 deficit. A strong serving performance in games three and four helped Doane even the match at 2-2. In the fifth game, Doane trailed 12-9 before taking six of the final seven points.
Chelsee Marvin (Sr.; Crete, Neb.) had a strong match, finishing with 18 kills and five total blocks. Terra Andreasen (Fr.; Bellevue, Neb.) added 10 kills and 11 digs.
Ashley Sluka (Sr.; Milligan, Neb.) finished with 20 assists and 18 digs for the Tigers. Heather Davison (So.; Lincoln, Neb.) totaled 18 assists.
Doane finished with 13 ace serves, five a piece from Sluka and Jessy Livers (Jr.; Lincoln, Neb.).
Livers finished with five assists blocks and teamed with Ivie Speer (Jr.; Central City) for several key blocks in the final two games. Speer finished with six total blocks.
Emily Schwisow (Jr.; Beatrice, Neb.) had a team-high 22 digs to lead Doane.
