Doane College got off to a strong start at the Red Raider Classic on Friday afternoon as the Tigers topped Black Hills State University, 3-1. The Yellow Jackets are receiving votes in the current NAIA poll. Game scores were 25-18, 25-13, 23-25, 25-14 as the Tigers improved to 5-0 on the year.
Defense at the net proved to be an important factor in the match as the two squads combined for 25 team blocks. The Tigers took the advantage in the service game as they totaled 11 ace serves to the Yellow Jackets' three.
Offensively, the Tigers were led in kills by Terra Andreasen (Fr.; Bellevue, Neb.). She collected 24 on the match with a .442 attack percentage. Chelsee Marvin (Sr.; Crete, Neb.), in her first match since returning from an early season injury, followed up with nine kills while collecting five total blocks. Ivie Speer (Jr.; Central City, Neb.) posted five kills and six blocks.
Ashley Sluka (Sr.; Milligan, Neb.) picked up 27 set assists while Heather Davison (So.; Lincoln, Neb.) notched 20.
Jessy Livers (Jr.; Lincoln, Neb.) led the way behind the service line as she collected five ace serves. Andreasen and Emily Schwisow (Jr.; Beatrice, Neb.) added two each.
Schwisow posted 26 digs defensively. Livers & Andreasen followed with seven apiece.
