Jessy Livers nine kills & four ace serves |
Not even a fire alarm could derail Doane's volleyball team on the first day of action at the South Padre Tournament as the Tigers (2-0) defeated host University of Texas-Brownsville (0-1). The Scorpions are ranked No. 19 in the NAIA and Doane pulled off the three-game sweep. Game scores were 25-20, 25-17, 25-13. Play was held up during the third game as a fire alarm sounded and the building had to be evacuated. The Tigers had a balanced offensive attack as three players collected nine kills each. Terra Andreasen (Fr.; Bellevue, Neb.) collected nine to go with a .280 attack percentage. Jessy Livers (Jr.; Lincoln, Neb.) picked up nine with a .381 attack percentage. She was also strong behind the service line, collecting four ace serves. Ivie Speer (Jr.; Central City, Neb.) was also part of the trio with nine kills, posting a .353 attack percentage.
Kellie Peterson (Fr.; Ord, Neb.) added six kills while Abby Scott (Jr.; Belgrade, Neb.) posted four kills.
Ashley Sluka (Sr.; Milligan, Neb.) collected 22 assists in the game with Heather Davison (So.; Lincoln, Neb.) posting 13 assists. Davison was perfect behind the service line, going 11-for-11 with two ace serves.
Defensively at the net, Speer posted three assists blocks while Scott added two solo blocks and Lisa Lord (Fr.; Indianola, Neb.) added two assists blocks. Doane finished with six team blocks.
Emily Schwisow (Jr.; Beatrice, Neb.) notched a team-high 16 digs as the Tigers collected 49 digs in the match. Schwisow added an ace serve as Doane ended with seven in the match.

The Tigers will face Olivet Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon at 12:15 PM. Olivet Nazarene is ranked No. 23 in the NAIA and will be the Tiger's second ranked opponent in as many days.
