Application Process

 

STEP 1: Complete the Application for Admission to Graduate Studies in Education

STEP 2: Once we receive the application form and fee, we will mail an admission packet to you. You’ll need to submit the following items for the admission process:

  • a copy of your current teaching certificate
  • a resumé or vita that includes all professional teaching and administrative experiences
  • a written statement sharing why you are interested in the Ed.S. degree program as well as your professional goals for leadership at the district level and the candidate's philosophy of education and leadership (250 - 500 words)
  • official transcripts of undergraduate degree mailed directly from the institution AND official transcripts of all graduate hours completed and graduate degrees received, mailed directly from the graduate institutions to:

  • Complete the disclosure statement of criminal history and any history of violations of the Code of Ethics of the Professional Practices Commission. (A copy of the disclosure form is included in the application packet.)
  • Three letters of recommendation, including at least one from a practicing administrator. (Letter of recommendation forms are included in the application packet.)

STEP 3:  If selected as a candidate, you will participate in an interview that includes the review of a leadership demonstration portfolio. This portfolio* should document the capacity to be successful in post-masters academic work and should include the materials listed below, in addition to copies of the candidate’s resume and written statements that were submitted as part of the application for admission.

  • Personal philosophy of education.
  • Personal philosophy of leadership.
  • Evidence or documentation demonstrating the ability to engage in teamwork and collaboration.
  • Evidence or documentation demonstrating the use of reflective cycles for self-learning and self-development.
  • Evidence or documentation demonstrating an understanding of school cultures and strategies for implementation to formalize and/or improve culture.
  • Evidence or documentation demonstrating the ability to design, implement and evaluate formal school improvement plans and processes, including the collection and use of data from assessments of student learning.
  • Other evidence or documentation of the knowledge, skills and disposition needed for effective leadership in these categories:

*  If you are a Doane Educational Leadership Graduate you may use your EDL portfolio.

If You Are Not a Doane EDL Graduate

You may use a portfolio, video or other forms of demonstration to provide documentation of the expectations outlined under Step 3. The video or performance demonstration should express your ability to work with others, facilitate teamwork and develop collaborative processes with colleagues and other stakeholders, and any other evidence of leadership. 

Selection

We accept candidates for the program based upon the results of the interview and the completion of a faculty assessment of the candidate’s capacity for scholarship and leadership at the Ed.S. level. Candidates will be notified of their acceptance or other status.   

Transfer of Credit Policy

No credit hours are accepted as transfer credit for the Education Specialist degree.
