Why I Chose Doane: My high school teachers Gene and Virginia Else were graduates of Doane and they influenced me in choosing Doane.  Plus coming from a small high school it was an ideal college to attend.  Coming to Doane was the right choice and great experience.

Why I Chose Doane: I chose Doane (and I’m glad I did) because I was not a number, but a person.

Why I Chose Doane: Besides being the only school to really come after me, Coach Al Papik was willing to let a small guy have a chance.

Why I Chose Doane: The coaches, at the time, recruited me and invited me to the campus for a visit.  After the visit, I made the decision to attend Doane.  It just felt right!

Why I Chose Doane: I took part in the high school chorus called "The Young Nebraskans" sponsored by Doane and directed by the late Glenn Peterson. I loved the campus and I was sold!

Why I Chose Doane: I was all set to go to UNL (for the big city life) when a last minute visit to Doane changed my mind. The students were so warm and welcoming and the smaller atmosphere made me feel at home. I never miss an opportunity to promote Doane to prospective students; attending Doane was an amazing life event for me.

Why I Chose Doane: Among the most significant reasons I chose Doane College was the ability to gain a liberal arts education, while also being encouraged to participate in numerous extracurricular activities such as athletics, music, fraternity gatherings and student life programs.  I believe this provided the opportunity for a more well-rounded education, and helped me develop social skills that served me well throughout my professional career.

Why I Chose Doane: My mother made me! And, as usual, she made the right decision for me. My daughter, Whitney, is attending Doane now (I didn’t make her!) and creating the same life-long relationships as I did years before.

Why I Chose Doane: Many generations had attended Doane. I was having trouble deciding, and I didn’t know what my area of study would be. I knew Doane was a good liberal arts college, so I made the easy decision.

Why I Chose Doane: I grew up in Crete and left High School to attend University of Utah.  I was ill prepared and wanted to leave after one semester.  My father, Philip Heckman, was the President of Doane at the time and he asked if I wanted to come back and try Doane.  I did and it was a good fit.  I quickly made friends, many of whom remain friends to this day.  The Professors and staff gave me the attention I did not get in Utah.  In short, I chose Doane due to circumstances but it became one of the better choices of my life.

Why I Chose Doane: I chose Doane after being on campus for about two minutes.  It was during my first visit to the college in June of 1989.  I had no connections to Doane prior to my visit with my parents.  We stood near Smith Hall overlooking Miller Pond for a minute and I knew immediately when I was going to college.  I loved Doane because:

1.      It's small size allowed me to meet with faculty & staff whenever needed - great individual attention.
2.      I loved the smaller classes.  You're a name and a student - not a number.
3.      Opportunity - I had learning, leadership, internship, and travel (Interterm to Russia) opportunities I would have never had elsewhere.
4.      The campus - the most beautiful in the state, great faculty & staff, and great friends.  Six of us lived in the Quads for three years - we still get together every August.

Why I Chose Doane: Doane gave me the personal attention and small class size that I needed and wanted. It gave me an opportunity to continue my track career. The professors and coaches were second to none.

Why I Chose Doane: I chose Doane both because Secondary Education was my major (my Dad was a high school principal and he told me Doane was the best at preparing educators) and I wanted to continue my football career at the college level. I left appreciating the small class sizes and unparalleled individual attention I received!

Why I Chose Doane: I chose Doane because it offered me the opportunity to continue and finish my education while working a full time job in Lincoln.  Doane offers a high quality education to professionals working full-time jobs and/or have a family to care for at home.

Why I Chose Doane: My daughter, inlaws - Jack and Elva Mares, and Elva's family had attended Doane. I loved Angie Klasek when I met with her and felt it was the perfect fit for me. It turned out to be the a wonderful experience for me.

Why I Chose Doane: I chose Doane because after a search through the colleges and universities around Lincoln, Doane had more to offer the non-traditional student than any of the other schools I looked at.  The classes were the right size and the teachers at the Lincoln campus were there for the student.  I think for the non-traditional students that Doane offers the best education.
