The Board of Trustee's approval in mid-February meant Sheldon Hall was in a for a busy summer. The second residence hall on the Crete campus to undergo renovation, Sheldon is a three-story women's-only residence hall.
Doane worked with Performa Higher Education to create the renovation plans. Students were also instrumental in providing feedback during the design planning process.
Renovations to Sheldon, built in 1970, began following Commencement in May 2010 and include:
- Enhanced bedrooms/living spaces
- A studio room for music
- Exterior gathering areas with a new circular front plaza and large back patio with fireplace
- New lounges on the main and third floor
- Large classroom/meeting space
- A welcome/service desk
- A business center where students can print, scan and share information
- Enhanced bathrooms, laundry, storage and housekeeping facilities
The renovations to Sheldon Hall were completed in time for returning students in August 2010.
