Doane College Alumni Senior Award
Lincoln Campus - Julie Lemons
Julie and Jesse Lemons
The Alumni Senior Award is presented annually by the Doane College Alumni Association to a man and woman of the Lincoln Campus graduating class in recognition of superior performance in academic and extra curricular activities during their undergraduate careers.
Julie was born in Wichita, Kansas, and grew up in Dearborn, Missouri, where she graduated from high school in 1979. She worked for Montgomery Wards, JC Penney's, Employer's Reinsurance Corp, Fast Signs, North Kansas City Schools and Long Motor Inc. Each job incorporated her love of art and graphic design. She is currently working for Lincoln Public Schools as a graphic designer.
Education has always been important to Julie but her love and compassion for her family and community have been a priority. Julie's volunteer service has included Cub Scouts, AWANA, Red Cross swimming instructor, Odyssey of the Mind/Destination Imagination and PTA. She has been president of the Lincoln Artist's Guild, vice president of the Association of Nebraska Arts Clubs, co-op artist at the Noyes Art Gallery, a member of Lincoln's Network Chapter of the American Business Women's Association, and board member of the Nebraska Mothers Association and the list continues. In 2010 she was selected as the Nebraska State Mother-of-the Year and a National Merit Mother for American Mothers Inc.
Julie began her college coursework in 1979, married, raising a family, working full time, and taking college courses as time and money permitted. She entered Doane in 2008. She graduated in May 2012 with a bachelor's degree in graphic design and was inducted into Pinnacle, the Honor Society for nontraditional students. For her persistence and courage, dedication and achievements both in and out of the classroom, the Doane College Alumni Association presented Julie with the Lincoln Campus 2012 Alumni Senior Award. Congratulations, Julie!
