Writing Center Consultant Bios
Philip Weitl
Philip is an Assistant Professor of English and Director of
The Writing Center at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. He teaches courses on creative, technical, and expository writing, for which he was named the 2010 Doane College Teacher of the Year. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Nebraska, as well as a Master of Arts in English and a Graduate Certificate in Technical and Professional Communication from Kansas State University. His writing has earned awards from
The Briar Cliff Review, The Baltimore Review, the
Flint Hills Review, and the
Georgetown Review, and has appeared in
The Briar Cliff Review,
The Flint Hills Review, the
Georgetown Review,
Jelly Bucket, and
Next Text, a college writing anthology. He is also a regular contributor to
Nebraska Life. Prior to his time at Doane College, he served as the speechwriter and deputy press secretary for the Nebraska governor's office and, more recently, as the writing director for a Nebraska-based media production firm.
Aislee Adkisson
Aislee is a Sophomore from Geneva, Nebraska. She is an Accounting major and Business Administration minor. She stays busy doing homework, helping with the Doane Theatre Program, working in the Financial Aid Office, tutoring for Accounting classes, and of course, working in The Writing Center. Aislee also enjoys being with friends and family. She would love to sit down and talk about your writing!
Kathryn Michael
Kathryn is a sophomore from Tulsa, Oklahoma majoring in English and French. She enjoys reading, writing, being involved on campus, and sleeping when she can find the time.
Tim Burge
Tim is a junior from Grant, Nebraska who is majoring in History and English (Creative Writing Emphasis). Tim is a fan of Husker football, Tarheel Basketball, running track for Doane, eating, sleeping, and going places to do things.
Sarah Pracht
Sarah is a sophomore who is working on a Biology major and a Music minor. She enjoys taking part in Doane's Symphonic Wind Ensemble where she plays the flute. Although not sure where her Biology major will lead, she is considering cancer/cellular research or physical therapy.
Mairin Wolfe
Mairin is a sophomore from Plattsmouth, Nebraska. She is currently pursuing a major in English Education. Apart from the Writing Center, she enjoys being a member of Campus Crusade for Christ and singing in choir. During her spare time she enjoys reading, writing, coffee drinking, and spending time with family and friends.
Liz Tvrdy
Liz is a sophomore from Wahoo, Nebraska. She is an Elementary and Special Education major. On campus she is involved in Newman Club, Roots and Shoots, Sheldon Hall Council, and is a member of the Honor Society Alpha Lambda Delta. During the rest of her time she enjoys writing (especially poetry), reading, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She is extremely excited to help with the Writing Center and looks forward to this busy fall semester.
Brooke Segerstrom
Brooke is a sophomore pursuing a biology degree who is from the northeast, Falmouth, Maine. Outside of assisting in the Writing Center, Brooke participates in several organizations around campus including Omega Psi Theta Sorority, Doane Dance Team, Alpha Lambda Delta, Student Congress, Doane Ambassadors and is a Resident Advisor. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and hanging out with friends and family. Brooke is looking forward to her first year in The Writing Center and helping out in any way she can.
Mandy VanLaningham
Mandy is a Junior from the metropolis of Plymouth, Nebraska. She is currently pursuing majors in Psychology and Sociology, as well as a minor in Art. In addition to diverse interests within her chosen fields, Mandy likes learning about ancient civilizations, ethnic food, science, and music. She also enjoys gardening, cooking, writing songs, spending time outside, and eating vast quantities of sushi. In case your were wondering, she can be rather quirky and becomes irrationally happy in the presence of ducks (quack quack).
Adam Hunke
The Fall of 2010 will be Adam's first semester in The Writing Center, and the start of his second full year at Doane. He is pursuing a Political Science and Business Administration double major. Upon graduation he plans either to go straight into law school or to work for a few years and get a dual JD/MBA degree later. He is involved with Alpha Pi Epsilon, Phi Beta Lambda, His/Poli Sci Club, among other activities. Interests include paper dissection, people watching, scheming, Duke basketball, money, sleeping, selective procrastination, and the ability to debate anything. He is excited for this opportunity.
John Wiemer
John is from Seward, Nebraska. He is working to attain his degree in Business Administration and Math. In addition to being a member of The Writing Center staff, John participates in a variety of campus activities including the Doane Golf Team, Collegiate Chorale, Doane Honors Program, Student Congress, and Doane Ambassadors. John also enjoys traveling to learn and increase his understanding of different cultures, and he plans to study abroad during his time at Doane College. John is also a passionate Tarheel basketball fan and enjoys playing sports and games with family and friends. John is excited to contribute to The Writing Center team at Doane College.
Michaela Hruska
Michaela is a Sophomore from David City, NE. Her major is Biochemistry, and she hopes to attend graduate school for pharmacy after finishing her degree at Doane. She stays very busy during the school year with several jobs and campus activities. She teaches dance in Milford and David City, works at Ken's pharmacy here in Crete, is a chemistry recitation leader, is active in the Gamma Phi Iota sorority and Honor Sorority Alpha Lamda Delta, is involved in Relay for Life, Sheldon Hall Council, HOMC, and looks forward to working in The Writing Center starting this fall.
Morgan Holder
Morgan Holder is from Millard South in Omaha. She is a Business Administration and English major. In addition to her job with The Writing Center, she spends her time working as a Resident Assistant in Hansen Hall. She's also a tutor and an editor for the Doane Owl. Her interests include eating, sleeping, and spending time with friends.
