Campus Groups

Alternative Spring Break: Students travel out-of-state to help a variety of non-profit organizations. Most of the time is spent working, with some time for learning about the host city.

Doane Art League serves to foster interest in art through museum trips, films, and other special events. It is open to any Doane student.

C-Pals is a service organization that matches Doane students with children of the Crete community (2nd-6th grades). Doane students are asked to commit one academic year to developing the relationship, which includes having some type of weekly contact with the child. C-Pals is open to any Doane student who is interested in devoting time to a relationship with a child. An application and an interview process for informational purposes are required.

Doane Ambassadors was founded in 1985 to assist in providing programs of direct benefit to students, alumni, and faculty, as well as to the college in general. One of the primary goals of the group is to assist in recruiting new students to Doane, as well as assisting the activities of the Admissions and Institutional Advancement Offices. Members of Doane Ambassadors help promote an active program of recruitment and commitment among students and alumni. Membership is by application and interview process.

Doane Chess Club is a group of students interested in developing critical thinking skills through the pastime of chess playing.

Doane College Computer Club (DC3) members work to expand the use and understanding of computers on campus, promote personal computing knowledge, and investigate contemporary uses of computers off campus.

Doane Democrats encourages members to take an active interest in governmental affairs, and seeks to foster and perpetuate the ideas and principles of the Democratic Party.

Doane Forensics is open to any student interested in developing public speaking skills. Students speak at high schools, church organizations, campus groups, and private groups presenting speeches they have prepared. Scholarships may be available to students with prior experience.

Doane Karate Club provides members an introduction to traditional Okinawan Karate. This organization emphasizes a strong mind and body, and is under the direction of Shihan Timothy Snyder, 7th degree black belt.

Doane Outdoor Adventure is a group that focuses on providing opportunities for members to develop new friendships, experience new places, learn interdependence and developing an appreciation for natural resources.

Doane Republicans was founded to foster and encourage the activities of the Republican Party, and promote its ideals on the Doane College campus. The group strives to act as an effective political voice through thoughtful discussion of issues. The organization is open to all interested students.

Martin Investment Club was founded in 1986 with a $40,000 endowment donated by Dr. Alfred & Mary Martin. Members of this organization research companies, prepare presentations, and invest real money in the stock market. Members meet once a week and the club is open to all majors and interested students.

P.E.A.C.E.: The organization's aim is to educate and inform the campus about selected peace and justice issues around the world. P.E.A.C.E. takes appropriate peaceful action on issues, such as writing letters to influential government officials.

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is a national business association devoted to promoting interest in various fields ranging from accounting to computer programming.

Sertoma was founded to encourage and foster the idea of community service, and to promote teamwork and leadership while providing opportunities for creating friendship within the organization, on campus, and in the community.

Tiger Dance Squad is a 10-member dance team. They perform at half time of home football and basketball games. There are also opportunities to judge high school squad try-outs.

Tiger Spirit Squad are the cheerleaders for varsity football and men's and women's varsity basketball. The squad consists of eight women and four men. All Doane students may try out.

Wildlife and Conservation (W.A.C.O.) "Trap Club" is an organization that promotes and practices environmental awareness and participates in outdoor activities such as trapshooting. Trap shooters represent Doane at various competitions. This club is open to all Doane students.

Volunteer Services: Through the Hansen Leadership Program, Doane College students coordinate volunteer outreach programs between the campus and surrounding communities. Getting involved in community service, and developing personal understanding and skills in helping others, helps one grow as an individual and become a better citizen. IDS students, Greek members, individuals, class officers, clubs and other organizations, are encouraged to participate and communicate their activities with the volunteer services program.
