The Department of Biology at Doane College offers students a mix of traditional and innovative academic tracks—from a broad background in the biological sciences to a biology teaching endorsement to pre-professional programs in medicine, allied health, and forestry—that enable students to succeed in a variety of occupations related to the sciences and the allied health sciences. Our multi-dimensional, flexible, and continually evolving curriculum combines classroom studies with field experiences, internships, independent research projects, and cutting-edge laboratory courses such as immunology and electron microscopy. But the primary reason for our nationwide reputation for excellence is our highly qualified faculty. Unlike many other institutions, all classes at Doane are taught by professors who are as passionate about teaching and mentoring as they are about their own research.
Not surprisingly, our graduates go on to become leaders in their fields: pioneering scientists and researchers, innovators, doctors, biotechnologists, dentists, veterinarians, environmentalists, teachers, and policymakers who constantly challenge the boundaries of scientific knowledge and make a difference in the world.
