The English as a Second Language major is intended to provide an education in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages. This major does not provide certification for American public school teaching, but is intended to prepare students for teaching English in non-English-speaking countries. Internship possibilities through Doane's Midwest Institute for International Studies provide unique training for this major.
Accreditation
The Doane College Teacher Education Program is accredited by the North Central Association, the State of Nebraska and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Doane College and the Teacher Education Division are members of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), Nebraska Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (NACTE); Nebraska Council for Teacher Education (NCTE); Association of Independent Liberal Arts Colleges of Teacher Education (AILACTE); and the Nebraska Network for Educational Renewal (NeNER).
