Butler Gymnasium, Pool & Tennis Courts

Butler Fitness Center, opened the fall of 2007Erected in 1936, Butler Gym was named to honor U.S. Senator Hugh Butler, a long-time member and chairman of Doane's Board of Trustees. In 1944, an addition was built onto the gym to house a swimming pool. In 1955, another expansion project, the M.R. Byrnes classroom, was constructed. Butler is currently the site of some very exciting intramural volleyball and basketball games, and is equipped with the latest in exercise machines.

In the summer of 2007, Doane opened a 2,450 square foot fitness center within the west side of Butler Gym that is open to all students, faculty, and staff.  In addition to being conveniently located in the center of campus, the fitness center offers a significant amount of natural light, making it an inviting space for all.  The fitness center includes over 20 pieces of equipment, a vast selection of free weights, cable TV and accommodations for the use of personal listening devices.
