Doane College

Campus Safety

Frees Hall
Doane’s 300-acre Crete campus is beautiful, historic, and ideally located within driving distance of Lincoln. The college remains deeply committed to ensuring the continued security of the Doane campus and community. Besides employing student workers and staff to continually monitor the facilities at Crete, Doane also hires a private security firm, Silverhawk Security, to secure the campus from 10 p.m.to 6 a.m. every day. The Doane community is kept informed regularly about campus security and safety procedures through a variety of channels. These range from fall, spring, and summer orientation programs for new students to R.A. and residence hall meetings for all students. Safety information is regularly circulated through printed posters and publications, including the student and employee handbook and an annual informational brochure that complies with PL 101-542 of the Student Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act.

Everyday campus security measures include:

  • Locking the facilities at scheduled times.
  • Checking facilities for fire or vandalism.
  • Checking facilities for lights, heat, power outages, and water problems.
  • Monitoring and reporting criminal activity on campus to the police in emergency situations and to the Vice President for Student Leadership.
  • Summoning the Crete police to help with emergency situations.
