Article Body

Doane College has chosen Eric Vaughn, most recently a residence hall director at State University of New York College at Oswego, as its new Director of Career Development.

Vaughn said his experience working in resident life the last few years has helped him focus clearly on his target audience - students.

Eric VaughnVaughn, who received his Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from State University of New York College at Oswego in 2000, also completed his Master of Education at the University of South Florida (Tampa) and has completed 21 credits toward his Master of Business Administration degree at Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Fla.

While at Saint Leo University, Vaughn served for three years as Assistant Director for Career Services. His duties included individual counseling, assessment, event planning, programming, employer relations and instruction of career-related workshops.

In his role as Director of Career Development he will have similar duties, including counseling students in career decisions and career searches, providing information and workshops on graduate school application processes and developing and supervising internships for academic credit. He will also be responsible for teaching pre-internship classes, presenting the college's annual career fair and coordinating on-campus interviews for prospective employers/graduate programs.

Vaughn has been on the job since mid-July and said he has several goals as he collaborates with faculty and area businesses. Vaughn wants to increase internship opportunities for students, revamp the career/graduate fair held each spring and add new online software that will help students with resumes, cover letters and mock interviews.
