Doane College will mark Commencement 2008 with a weekend of activities, May 16-18.
Approximately 350 undergraduate and 190 graduate degrees will be awarded during the college's 131st annual Commencement exercises Sunday, May 18 in Cassel Open Air Theatre.
Commencement begins at 10 a.m. for Lincoln and Grand Island campus undergraduate students and the college's graduate programs. Harold Clarke, a 1974 Doane graduate and commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, will serve as keynote speaker. Clarke also is the past director of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
Commencement exercises for Crete campus students follow at 2:30 p.m. Dr. R. Kent Newmyer, a 1952 Doane graduate and professor of law and history at the University of Connecticut School of Law, will give the keynote address. Newmyer is an author whose most recent works include John Marshall and the Heroic Age of the Supreme Court. Newmyer will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Doane.
Rev. Karla Cooper, Doane chaplain, will serve as platform minister for both ceremonies.
Lawn receptions follow each ceremony. In the event of rain, Commencement will be moved to Fuhrer Field House.

2 p.m. -- Baccalaureate service, Heckman Auditorium. Rodney Diercks, Ed.D. is the speaker.
5:30 p.m. - Alumni banquet, main dining room, Perry Campus Center, includes alumni award presentations. Reservations required.
8 p.m. - President's concert, Heckman Auditorium
