The 60th Doane Relays featured some historic marks on Saturday afternoon in Crete. The two-day event saw a meet record set by Charity Miles of Northwestern College on Friday evening in the 10,000m run. On Saturday, Doane's Kym Bennett set a new meet record in the 800m run. Abby Schlueter became only the third woman at Doane to eclipse the 40-foot mark in the triple jump as she posted a 40-03.50 jump to win the event. Regan Carlstrom, Lance Foster and Paulvince Obuon won three events (individual and relays) for the Tigers.
Overall, 17 automatic marks and 13 provisional qualifying marks were attained during the meet. Fifteen marks each were achieved on the men's and women's side, nine automatic marks for the men and eight for the women.
Abby Schlueter hit two automatic marks in the jumps while notching a provisional mark in the 100m hurdles. Schlueter finished second in the long jump with a mark of 18-06 and won the triple jump.
Regan Carlstrom picked up two provisional marks in the sprints, winning the 100m and 200m dashes, and anchored the 4x400m relay team that hit an automatic time of 3:54.96. Other relay team members were Bennett, Amanda Kermoade and Haley Bergstrom. Bennett hit an automatic mark in the 800m run with a time of 2:13.90. Kermoade reached a provisional mark in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:55.30.
Viviana Arreola was victorious in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:50.00.
Paulvince Obuon won the 100m and 200m dashes with provisional qualifying marks. He was also a member of the 4x100m relay team that reached an automatic qualifying mark. Other members of the relay team were Kedrick Kelly, D'Artagnan Dai'Re and Jess Wimmer.
Lance Foster won the 400m dash with a time of 47.80, an NAIA automatic time. He was also a member of the winning 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams. The 4x400m team of Foster, Cody Ingold, Jess Wimmer and Greg Torres posted an automatic time of 3:14.91. The 4x800m team of Foster, Ingold, Torres and Ben DeLay ran a time of 7:51.40, a provisional mark.
Sufian Kimo hit a provisional mark in the 10,000m run with a time of 32:17.80.
In field events, Katie Bartels and Michelle Ortmeier hit 5-06 in the high jump, an automatic mark. Gretchen Clark and Jenna Temme reached 5-04 for a provisional mark. In the pole vault, Ale Cano won with a vault of 11-10.00. Carly Weisgerber hit an automatic mark as well in the pole vault with a mark of 11-05.75. Tawny Fye won the discus with a throw of 135-02 and hit a provisional in the hammer throw with a mark of 152-10.
In the men's high jump, Scott Neuhalfen finished second with a jump of 6-08, an NAIA automatic mark. Kenneth Martin hit a provisional mark with a jump of 6-06. Maurice Smith won the long jump with a leap of 23-03.25, an automatic qualifying mark. Nathan Greene won the triple jump with a provisional mark of 46-04.00.
In the men's throws, Jared Schuurmans hit two automatic marks in the shot put and discus. Mike Tierney also hit an automatic mark in the shot put. Adam Burmood hit an automatic mark in the javelin with a toss of 192-02 to win the event.
Doane also held a multi-event for the men and women. On the men's side, Forrest Gregory scored 6,220 points in the decathlon to win the event. Sara Bloom finished with 3,391 points for third place in the heptathlon. Doane alum Katie Kosmos won the event with 4,524 points.
