Arbor Day was an appropriate day - even if the weather did not agree - for the dedication of the new Teachers' Grove, a special addition to the Doane College Arboretum. About 60 people were on hand for the celebration.
Teachers' Grove is located on the site of the former Goodall Science Building. The formal program was held in the Farley-Korff Welcome Center in the Chab Weyers Education and Hixson Lied Art Building.
The Teachers' Grove will honor those in the education field who made a donation for the landscaping of the area. The 129 names of those honored were placed on a bronze plaque on a 9,850 lbs. red quartzite boulder donated by Dan Meyer, Doane's director of Planned Giving. Meyer moved the boulder from his quarry in Roca to its final resting spot at Doane.
The dedication program included remarks by President Jonathan Brand, Lyn Forester, professor of education and Dean of the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program, and Richard Dudley '56, development associate and former chair of the Education Department.
Roots and Shoots, a Doane College ecology group under the direction of Professor Brad Elder, assisted in planting a new arboretum tree.
